Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January
19, 1946. She was the fourth of 12
children born to Robert Lee Parton and
Avie Lee Owens. Parton is an award
winning country music singer,
songwriter, composer, author, actress
and philanthropist
Parton is the most successful female
country artist till date with 25 number
one singles and 41 top-10 country
albums.
When Dolly Parton was young, her family
was extremely poor and she grew up in a
rundown one room cabin in Tennessee. Her
parents were parishioners in the
Assembly of God Church, which is a
Pentecostal denomination, and music was
very much a part of her life because of
the church.
Parton started performing as a child
when she started singing on local radio
and television programs in East
Tennessee. When she was just 9 years
old, Dolly Parton was already appearing
on The Cas Walker Show and by the time
she was 13, she was recording on a small
label. In 1964, Dolly Parton moved to
Nashville and she took along with her
many distinctive elements music from
East Tennessee.
